Adoption Processes

Adopting with Celandine Wood Animal Rescue

We endeavour to help animals find their forever home and so we have the following processes in place to ensure you are happily matched with your ideal companion!

Cat Adoption Process

Take a look at our cats listed for adoption. Please consider which one would be a good match for you. We provide their bios to help you find a suitable match. If you do not have a specific Cat in mind, we will help you to find a Cat best suited to you during the adoption process.

Once you have found a dog you think is a match, you can begin the application process by completing our online form or downloading and emailing our Word doc form, please see application form page for details.

We will send you an email to confirm we have received your application. Please check your spam/junk box for this email.

Once your application has been received we will call you to complete the application process as well as discuss your chosen Cat. If successful you will be asked for a virtual home check along with proof of identification and address. For those who own their homes we do request proof of ownership. We will require written permission in rented accommodation. At this stage it will be determined if an in person home check is required.

You will be invited to meet the Cat and some of the team. Each cat is in a different situation so depending upon these circumstances you will be informed of where the meet & greet will take place.  Following your meet and greet, you will then receive follow up contact from a member of the Cat team to discuss if you wish to move ahead with adoption.

Hurrah, you get to take your Cat home. This will take place at Medivet Heswall where the adoption paperwork will be signed and the adoption fee paid. (please note, adoption fee can be paid via direct debit prior, if preferred).

Following adoption, we will check in with you a few days later. We would love to receive updates as to how the Cat is loving life! Nothing makes us happier than seeing a pet in their new home. Support will always be available to you via our charity. We offer rescue for life and will never refuse to take the Cat back.

Dog Adoption Process

Take a look at our dogs listed for adoption. Please consider which one would be a good match for you. We provide their bios to help you find a suitable match. (please note we will also provide guidance later in the process as to which Dog may suit you).

Once you have found a dog you think is a match, you can begin the application process by completing our online form or downloading and emailing our Word doc form, please see application form page for details.

We will send you an email to confirm we have received your application. Please check your spam/junk box for this email.

Once your application has been received, we will call you to complete the application process as well as discuss your chosen dog (or suitable dogs). If successful you will be asked for a virtual home check at this stage along with proof of identification and address. For those who own their homes we do request proof of ownership. We will require written permission in rented accommodation.

You will be invited to meet the dog and some of the team. Each dog is in a different situation so depending upon these circumstances you will be informed of where the meet & greet will take place. In most cases we encourage 2-3 meet & greets for you to get to know your chosen dog. We do request all household members attend meet & greets. If you have a dog(s) and/or a regularly visiting dog(s) we will arrange for them to also be a part of the meet & greet process.

We will conduct a home visit with a trained volunteer. This is to check that the home is suitable for the chosen dog. Our volunteers will also give basic advice on how to prepare and settle your dog in. Home visits typically take place after first meet & greet.

We may require you to attend a short 1 to 1 training session with our qualified trainer. They will help you with any training needs and provide further advice on how to help settle your dog into their new home.

You get to take your dog home, yay! Adoption paper work will be signed. Following adoption you will be provided with a personalised support group, for ongoing support. Please note, we offer rescue for life and will never refuse to take the dog back.

Additional information to note: Included in the adoption fee, dogs will be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and flea and wormed by the rescue if the situation allows for it.

Adoption fees vary depending on the age/breed/health of the dog and will be discussed following an appropriate match if a dog has not already been selected.

3-5 meet and greets will occur prior to rehoming, including initial meet/walks and a meet and greet in the new home.
