🐾💙 Meet Guinness! 💙🐾

Guinness is a gorgeous 2-year-old Labrador cross who is as cute as a button and has a personality to match! If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate companion who will greet you with a wagging tail every single day, Guinness could be the perfect match. 🥰

Guinness came to us after finding himself at risk of euthanasia in a stray pound. Despite passing all of his temperament assessments with flying colours, many pounds aren’t able to rehome dogs directly to the public and rely on rescues to step in and give dogs like Guinness a second chance. Thankfully, he is now safe with us and ready to find the loving forever home he truly deserves. 🏡❤️

Since arriving at the rescue, Guinness has become an absolute favourite with our volunteers. He’s a wonderfully friendly, people-oriented boy who simply loves being around humans. Whether it’s heading out for a walk, accepting a tasty treat, playing a game or soaking up lots of fuss and affection, Guinness is happiest when he’s included in whatever you’re doing.

Like many young Labradors, Guinness approaches life with plenty of enthusiasm! He can become over-excited when meeting people and may jump up to say hello, but once he’s settled he walks nicely on the lead and is eager to please. His new family will need to continue his training, helping him channel that excitement into good manners. He’s a clever, willing lad who enjoys learning and will thrive with kind, consistent guidance.

Recently, Guinness enjoyed a long weekend away on a foster holiday with one of our volunteers, giving us the opportunity to see how he copes in a home environment. He settled in really well and showed us what a lovely companion he can be. He proved to be fully house-trained and was completely non-destructive, happily relaxing around the home after enjoying his walks and playtime.

During his foster holiday, Guinness also lived alongside a calm, neutral female dog. Although he was a little over-the-top when they first met (his excitement sometimes gets the better of him!), he quickly learned to settle and happily coexisted with her. Because of this, we believe he could potentially live with another friendly, tolerant dog following successful introductions.

One area Guinness will need a little extra support with is being left alone. Understandably, after everything he has been through, he has shown some separation anxiety and prefers having his people nearby. The encouraging news is that this improved noticeably after just a few days as he began to feel more secure. We think much of this was due to the huge changes he’d experienced, and with patience, routine and gradual training, we’re confident he’ll continue to make progress. For now, we’re looking for a home where someone is around for most of the day and can slowly build up his confidence when left.

Guinness is not currently crate trained. During his foster holiday he wasn’t particularly comfortable being crated and found it quite stressful initially, so we feel he would be best suited to a home where he can have a safe room or secure area of the house rather than relying on a crate. That said, he did begin to settle much better in the crate after a few days, suggesting this is something that could be worked on over time if his new family wished to continue his training.

When it’s time to play, Guinness is always ready! He absolutely loves chasing balls, carrying around squeaky toys and generally making everyone laugh with his playful antics. He’s full of character, loves to have fun and will keep his family smiling every day.

Guinness could potentially live with older children who understand that he’s still a bouncy young dog, and he may also be able to live with another dog pending successful introductions.

Guinness has already overcome so much in his young life, yet he remains one of the happiest, friendliest dogs you’ll ever meet. All he’s asking for now is a family who will continue to guide him, love him and give him the stability he’s been waiting for.
