Personality
Rocky at the tender age of 7 months old, was taken to a local vets for euthanasia so we stepped in to save his life.
Although Lurchers by nature can be quite anxious, Rocky seemed to be on the extreme end of the scale when arriving with us – he was petrified of everything and everyone.
Slowly with lots of encouragement and support, he has really come out of his shell. Rocky has been great with us, he is incredibly playful and really loving. He now enjoys lots of attention from the team.
We have been introducing him into the rescue pack, he is getting along very well with other dogs and thrives socializing with them. Recently we have noticed when meeting new people Rocky’s tail has begun to wag more and more! He is becoming a genuinely happy little soul.
Health & Behaviour
Rocky has no known health conditions.
Rocky can resource guard certain things. From food, to toys, to any random object he decides he likes! We’ve only seen small glimpses of this behaviour and it hasn’t been an issue with us, however with an owner who doesn’t show leadership or boundaries he may take advantage of this.
Rocky gets along with most dogs, although may choose to guard food against them too so a home as the only dog may be preferred, he could live with another dog.
Rocky is crate trained and keeps his crate clean. Rocky walks nicely on a lead, he does not pull.
Perfect Match?
There is some ongoing work to be done with Rocky, however he is young and with the correct guidance this should not be a problem.
Anyone thinking about adopting Rocky needs to understand they need to go back to basics when training. His new family needs to show him patience and kindness while leading with a firm set of boundaries in place. In return not only will you feel a sense of achievement helping Rocky through this tough time, you will also be rewarded with lots of love and affection.
We encourage any potential adopters (without breed experience) to do some prior research around Lurchers to ensure a solid knowledge base, with regards to their nature.
