Relinquishing Your Dog or Cat: What to Expect
We recognise that various life situations—such as illness, financial struggles, allergies, moving, or behavioral issues—can make caring for your pet feel overwhelming. Asking for help shows responsibility and courage, and we are here to support you throughout the process.
- 1. Reach Out to Us
Reach out to our team hrough our online surrender form. We will listen without judgment and discuss possible alternatives to rehoming, like behaviour support, financial assistance, or training advice, that might help you keep your pet.
- 2. Assessment & Your Options
We will arrange a follow-up call to discuss your situation and your pet’s needs. If needed, we’ll set up an in-person assessment—either at your home or the rescue centre—to explore your pet’s personality, preferences, dislikes, and any behavioural or health issues.
- 3: Preparing to Relinquish
Please ensure you bring the following essentials before visiting us with your pet:
• Last vaccination and product used
• Last flea and worm treatments and products used
• Neutered or spayed status
• Microchip
Veterinary records
• Recent health check results
- 4: Booking & Surrender Process
Once you’re prepared, we’ll set a time for you to bring your pet in. When you arrive, you’ll fill out paperwork to legally transfer the animal into our care. Please note that the surrender to the rescue is final and cannot be reversed.
- 5: Care and Rehoming
Once your pet arrives, it will undergo a health check, receive any needed treatments, and have its microchip updated if necessary. Your pet might be placed in foster care. Rehoming can take some time. In rare instances where a healthy animal cannot be rehoused, many rescues offer long-term sanctuary.
