Help us care for injured wildife

Are you passionate about wildlife and eager to make a difference? Volunteering as a wildlife rehabilitator is a meaningful way to protect and care for injured, sick, or orphaned animals. However, it’s important to understand that this role comes with significant responsibilities.

What Does Wildlife Rehabilitation Involve?

Wildlife rehabilitation goes beyond simply caring for animals; it’s about giving them the best chance to recover and return to their natural habitats. This can be a highly rewarding experience, but it also requires dedication, patience, and a willingness to learn.

Key Considerations Before You Start

  • Time Commitment: Wildlife rehabilitation is time-consuming. Animals may require care at irregular hours, including early mornings or late nights. Feeding schedules, cleaning habitats, and monitoring their recovery demand consistent effort.
  • Proper Training and Experience: Handling wild animals requires specific skills to ensure both your safety and theirs. Many animals can become easily stressed by human interaction. Proper training helps you understand their needs and behaviors, as well as how to minimise their distress during recovery.
  • Protecting Wildlife: Keeping wildlife safe from predators is critical. This involves creating secure, species-appropriate enclosures and maintaining minimal human contact to ensure animals retain their natural survival instincts.
  • Legal and Ethical Guidelines: Wildlife rehabilitation often requires permits and adherence to local laws. It’s essential to familiarise yourself with the regulations in your area and to work within ethical guidelines that prioritise the animals’ welfare.

By volunteering, you’ll contribute directly to the conservation of wildlife, help reduce suffering, and support ecosystems. Watching an animal return to the wild after a successful rehabilitation is a truly heartwarming and inspiring experience. If you are interested, please get in touch via the Contact form.
